Lakisha White, Secretary
Lakisha White, I am a Deputy Clerk of Court for Pitt County. I have worked as a criminal courtroom clerk in District and Superior Courts for 24 ½ years. I have seen many people in the courtroom battling addictions, homelessness, and mental health illnesses. I believe if underlying issues are addressed, it will reduce recidivism and put them on the path to becoming law-abiding citizens.
I have always had the heart to help people. My calling now is to help people with addictions and assist them with rehabilitation. I decided to go back to school in August 2019. I earned my Associate in Arts degree from Pitt Community College in August 2021. I completed a semester at East Carolina University and then transferred to North Carolina Central University. I will receive my bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice in May 2023. I will be attending graduate school to obtain my master's in Clinical Mental Health to become licensed as a substance abuse counselor. My goal is to open a practice to address addictions and connect my clients with other resources to obtain employment and housing.
Working in the criminal justice system has allowed me to see and hear the struggles of the citizens in Pitt County. Hearing their stories made me realize we are all one bad decision away from walking in their shoes. Sometimes all someone need is a second chance to do and be better.
